On October 2, 2010 at 9:40 am we were blessed with the newest addition to our family. Jackson Thomas joined the world weighing 8 lbs 9 oz and was 21 in long. Unlike his big sister, he was born with a head full of DARK hair. It was quite a change!!
His middle name, Thomas, is after his Grandpa Renner (Chris' middle name is his paternal grandfather's first name so we wanted to continue that tradition) and we found many family links with his first name as well....His Grandpa Thompson has always been known as "JT" and we liked adding JT #2 to the family, his Grandma Thompson's first name is "Jackie," Nana Drummond lives on Jackson Road in Massachusetts, and Chris' mom added that she works at a bank with lots of 20 dollar bills with President Jackson on them as well :)
Late at night on the 2nd he started having trouble breathing and was taken into the special care nursery where he was put on oxygen and given an IV. He was monitored closely and had more problems with aspirating and turning blue (which is definitely not a good look). The doctors were concerned that his esophagus and trachea may have been connected, allowing fluid to enter his lungs. An upper GI was performed and thankfully that was not the case. It was such a relief! He has some acid reflux, which I'm happy to deal with considering what we would have faced if they were connected!
He had to stay in the special care nursery for my whole hospital stay, so unfortunately most of our visitors had to view him through the nursery glass. Not being able to hold him was so difficult and seeing him hooked to all the machines and having tubes in his nose was very scary. I was discharged but was allowed to stay at the hospital until he was cleared to go home, and that ended up only being one more night - we were very blessed!! He proved to be a little fighter right off the bat and my prayers were answered as he was back in our room and on his way home that next morning!
